Dear Meridian,

Swavesey & District Bridleways Association would like to express their thanks to Kim and John Johnson for the creation of a permissive bridleway on their land in Swavesey. It is very much appreciated.

Dear Editor
I was always under the impression that locally elected councillors represented all their constituents. From what I read in the latest edition of the Meridian, our County Councillor is not supporting the majority of people in her constituency who travel to work or recreation by car.

In one sentence she tells us it is dangerous to park cars on the street and in the next she advises people to park on the street (to “slow” the traffic down). Mrs Johnson sings the praises of a new cycle path between Swavesey and Over at a cost of, we know not how, many thousands of pounds. (How many will benefit I wonder?) but we are told her Department has no money to repair the holes in Ramper Road and Fen Drayton Road.

Mrs Johnson is also an advocate of the guided Bus service at a cost of £100,000,000 to provide a service, which is inferior to the bus service we already have, which people do not use.

Does the word hypocrisy spring to mind !!!

Yours sincerely

David  & Sue Ellington

Thank You

A sincere thank you to all my relatives and friends who have sent me so many cards and flowers with best wishes during my recent stay in hospital.

The Meridian

I really had to laugh when I read Jottings from your County Councillor in the April/May issue of The Meridian. As any motorist knows you park where you like and never mind the inconvenience caused to others! I have seen cars parked across footpaths and have even had cars pull up in front of me and the passenger door opened into my path without anyone bothering to check if it was safe to open the door. I wish I could say that this was unusual but I am afraid it is far from it. How many people have noticed that the speed limit approaching the village from the A14 is now 30mph? I have not seen many keeping to this new limit, many ignore it completely and are only interested in driving through the village as quickly as possible. (Actually I am one of the ones who keeps the limit! Ed).

Surely Councillor Johnstone cannot believe that speed reduction measures in Swavesey will work? The only way to try and slow the traffic down is to have regular checks on speeding through the village and fines and penalty points for those who do not observe the limits.
