FOOTPATH 1 can be accessed via Lowburyholme
Road in Over or from the footpath leaving
the Swavesey to Over road at the top
of the hill, opposite the cemetery.
This path winds downhill through Mill
Pits, overgrown with scrub, with the
grassland rich in wild flowers. Many
birds can be seen or heard, with perhaps
a view of a muntjac deer. At the bottom
of the hill cross a stile to join footpath
1 at the start of the floodbank. Look
out for signs of badger activity and
moorhens in the drain. The path heads
north-west towards Overcote, following
the banktop.
When the drain and washes on the
left flood in winter, wildfowl and waders
may be seen. In summer snipe may be
heard drumming and a family of swans
are often on the drain. At Webb's Hole
Sluice, turn right towards Overcote
Road or cross the sluice bridge to footpath
2. Look out for mink around here. Shoals
of fish and an occasional large pike
may be seen from the bridge.
