FOOTPATH 2: follows the river floodbank
from Webb's Hole Sluice past its junction
with footpath 3 west to the parish boundary
near Holywell. Along the river, swan,
great crested grebe and heron are frequently
seen and occasionally a brilliant flash
of blue as a kingfisher darts by. The
marshy areas and overgrown drains left
of the bank are feeding and breeding
areas for snipe. After crossing the
end of River Drove (footpath 4) you
will see Swavesey Lake, a landscaped
gravel pit, as you approach the flood
protection doors and footbridge at the mouth
of Covell's Drain.
Bridleway 5 and footpath 6 join footpath
2 here.
The lakes are havens for many kinds
of waterfowl, most commonly including
coot, tufted duck, swan, Canada goose,
great crested and little grebe, and
wigeon. Many rare migrant birds have
been recorded around these lakes.
