Bridleway 5

BRIDLEWAY 5: leaves Station Road along a tarmac and gravel track (Hog Pasture) to its junction with footpath 3 (Middle Fen Drove) at the railway crossing. It is lined by overgrown hedgerows and ancient willows in need of re-pollarding. Just over the railway line on the right-hand side is the New Dock, constructed at the same time as the railway to replace the wharves in the village, as barges could not pass under the railway. The reeds in the dock support a thriving colony of reed warblers. The route turns left, over a stile, to follow the bank of the Navigation Drain. It passes under the overhanging hedgerow in places, with glimpses of Swavesey Lake (see footpath 2) on the left. It joins the bank of Co veil's Drain near the crumbling brickwork of an earlier set of flood protection doors, overgrown with brambles. Sedge warblers nest along the overgrown stretches of this drain. Turn right along the bank to meet footpath 2 at the mouth of the drain.
