FOOTPATH 6: (Mow Fen Drove) starts near the
cemetery, reached from Taylors Lane. A straight
gravel track leads to the railway crossing. To
the right are small meadows with tall hedges,
and to the left mainly arable fields. There are
badger scrapes, setts and dung pits in the area,
and although there is no public access to the
meadows, badgers may be seen or heard from the
footpath at night. At the railway crossing the
only evidence of a crossing keeper's house and
garden is a number of fruit trees, Japanese
knotweed and perennial sweet pea plants.
The route continues along the track, with
Swavesey Lake on the right, to Covell's Bridge.
Look for wildfowl, mink and, optimistically, an
otter at this point. The footpath turns right,
over a stile, along the right bank of Covell's
Drain, officially crossing at the footbridge
halfway along and joining footpath 2. Many
people stay on the right bank, passing the end
of bridleway 5, to join footpath 2 at the flood
protection doors at the mouth of the drain.
