FOOTPATH 10: (Lairstall Drove)
leaves Cow Fen Drove (footpath 12) after
200m and heads north-east as a gravel
and grass track with ditches and drains
alongside. It crosses the disused railway
line and follows a deep main drain for
the local drainage system until it crosses
the Swavesey drain, which is the main
drainage channel for the whole area.
Water voles may be seen here. A patch
of scrub where the drain and railway
meet is the site of the old brickyard
which produced the red bricks seen in
some Swavesey houses. This is an area
where sparrowhawks may be seen or heard.
Beyond the drain is the footpath to
Over and an opportunity to leave the
public footpath and explore the adjacent
meadow and orchard under a permissive
arrangement through the Countryside
Stewardship Scheme (see information
board).
