Theft From Vehicles

The police are always working to reduce theft from vehicles in the Cambridge and Ely areas.
However, items left on show in vehicles makes vehicle crime a very lucrative option for thieves. It is so simple to smash a window and grab items on display.  These items are then sold for a fraction of their value.

Cambridge Constabulary are launching a high profile 10 week campaign to crack down on those who continue to leave property on display for the opportunist thief.

Each week officers will visit hotspot areas for vehicle crime issuing vehicle alert notices to people who have left valuables on display.

The vehicle alert scheme works by officers taking note of the registration number of vehicles that are left unattended with valuables in them. Police then write to the owner of the vehicle to alert them of the implications of leaving valuables in their vehicle.

Detective Chief Inspector Dan Vajzovic, said: "We have ongoing work in place across the city and surrounding areas to reduce vehicle crime, however, we need the public's help if we are to make more of an impact.

Ellen Muirhead, Crime Reduction Officer, Parkside Police Station urged the public to follow the strategy below

Don’t make it easy for thieves to steal your property.

Lock your car and remove ALL your property.  If you have to leave items in the car lock them out of sight in the boot.  Leave the glove box empty and open to show that you have not hidden anything inside.

Register your property at www.immobilise.com  to help police identify it as yours and catch the criminals.

The police are doing everything they can to prevent theft from vehicles but motorists must play their part by removing tempting items from display.
