Swavesey Primary School Among the many strengths of Swavesey Primary School are the dedication and expertise of its Governing Body. The Body comprises of Staff and Parent Governors, LEA and Parish Council representatives and co-opted Governors who are brought in to offer particular skills - for instance finance, interviewing, health and safety or property management. We have usually been able to recruit governors from within the school community as we are fortunate in having very supportive parents and staff. However, it is also important to have representatives from the wider community, people who can bring energy, experience and fresh ideas. Are you, or do you know, someone who believes in giving some-thing back to the community; a public spirited individual who feels they have something to offer and feels passionately about education? Governors
need no formal qualifications. However, they do need to have time to dedicate
to their role. This usually means one full Governors’ meeting each
term plus individual committee meetings. There are committees for Personnel
– involving interviewing new staff; School development – looking
ahead to ensure we continue to aim high; Curriculum – reviewing policies
for each subject area; Premises – keeping the buildings safe, secure
and attractive; and Finance. You may serve on more than one committee
depending on your interests and talents. Each Governor is also attached
to a specific curriculum area, and may take the opportunity to visit the
school to see lessons taking place. Initial training is offered by the
Governor Support Service. There are also many free, optional courses covering
all aspects of being a Governor. The Governor Support Service will be holding a ‘recruitment roadshow’ at Ely Library on Thursday 23 rd May 10am – 2pm. Members of the Service, County Councillors and existing governors will talk about the role of governors in supporting Cambridgeshire’s schools. But you don’t have to wait until May! If you feel you have something to offer to Swavesey Primary, get in touch with the school to express your interest. We currently have two LEA Governor vacancies, and one for a co-opted Governor. The LEA has asked us to recommend local people who can offer their time and enthusiasm to become a school Governor. Could this be you? If you want to have a chat about what is involved call our Chair of Personnel, Sue Hampton-Matthews (202961).Give it some serious consideration – then give the school a call! (01954 273312) |
