The bell ringers at St. Andrew’s Swavesey have launched an appeal to buy two new bells for the Church to mark the Golden Jubilee of the Queen’s reign. This will be a lasting celebration of the Queen’s fifty years of sovereignty.

The existing six bells were made in 1753 except one, which was cast about 1625, and they have hung in the church ever since. In 1932 a metal frame replaced the old wooden frame, which was in poor repair, and the bells were hung on new mounts and bearings. This new frame was positioned in the tower to allow for the addition of two new bells. These new bells will create a full octave ring of eight bells.

The total cost of the two new bells, the extra frame supports to hang the bells in and their fittings and ropes will be approximately £16,000.

The bell ringers have already received sponsorship to cover the cost of one bell and its fittings. The ringers meet on Tuesday evenings at 7.30 to 9.00, and also ring for Sunday services and other special occasions.

If you wish to make a donation to the appeal, would like to see the bells and inside of the tower, or are interested in learning to ring the bells, please contact:
