Swavesey
Primary School bade farewell to Linda Prettyjohns recently. Linda worked
as a midday supervisor at the school for over five years. She has also
chaired the school's successful PTA and, more recently, has helped to
run the After School Club. 'Linda knew all the children in our school.
We will miss her superb organisational skills and her witty comments'
said headteacher David Major. Linda is pictured receiving leaving gifts
from some Year Six students.

Swavesey Pre School The words "pamper" and "indulgence" obviously hit the right note with Swavesey womenfolk because our Indulgence Evening in February was a sell out, raising over £500. Something for the children next, chocolate heaven with an Easter Egg Hunt where we were generously supported with eggs by the local stores and supermarkets. Back to the adults, with a Fish and Chip Quiz Night on the 10th May, and then something for everyone - our Open Morning on Saturday 17th May. A bit of whirlwind for our Committee! To
top it all, the children were so excited to open the packages of wonderful
new toys and equipment. We also now have two computers up and running
in a purpose built cabinet. The staff had a new stapler too! Our Open Morning is for present and prospective parents and children to come along and see what we offer to preschool children. You can meet the Staff and Committee over a cup of tea, there will be a range of activities and toys for the children, we can answer your queries about how a preschool works and if you wish you can register your child with us. If you would like to talk about it beforehand, please phone our Supervisor Cathy Dennis on 203039 or 07931 366826. We will be closed for Easter holidays from 14th - 29th April, and for half term from 26th - 30th May. You are invited to SWAVESEY

Swavesey
Primary School Report
Our School
Council meets the Parish Council Swavesey Parish Council has 11 councillors. To become a councillor you have to live in Swavesey and stand for election. Elections are held every 4 years, the next one is in May. People in the village vote for whom they want on the council. The main tasks of a councillor are to discuss any problems in the village and see what can be done about them. Also, if they need to, they will give money (grants) for improvements to our village. At the first meeting the new council elects a Chair and Vice Chair. A Clerk acts as a secretary and is responsible for sending letters and paying bills. Meetings are normally held on the 4th Mondays of each month in the Memorial Hall. Meetings usually last for 2 or 3 hours but if there is something very important they may be longer. There is no real office for the council, they have to use the clerk's house. However, they are planning to build an office in the village hall. Our Parish Council does not have its own emblem or logo either. The clerk is the only person who is paid in any way, and they claim some expenses. The council sometimes helps children by building new play areas or providing more playing fields and basketball hoops. We found some common things between our two different councils. Harley Long and Hayley Dean (Year 6) Mr Parish also presented this painting by Oscar Romp to the school. It was painted during the excavations in Swavesey two years ago. Oscar worked in School and promised to donate the picture. Back row:

Skating A big THANK YOU to the PTA members who gave up most of their Sunday to help build/dismantle the 'ice rink' and cook/sell refreshments during the day. Thank you also to Mr Major and Mrs Donnelly for spending another day of the week at school to help out. After a pot of hard work, we raised a fantastic £349.36, which made it all worthwhile. I'm sure the profit was boosted by the donations of delicious cakes and biscuits plus the wonderful raffle prizes - so another thank you goes to the families who helped. A final thank
you concerning this event goes to Rob and Nicki from the Trinity Foot,
for their continued support and generosity towards PTA events. They once
again donated the soup, which was the best Stilton & Broccoli soup
