Spring is here, and apart from a few hiccups with the
ever capricious English weather there is the promise of
warmer days to look forward to. Summer fetes, concerts,
barbecues, light evenings to enjoy the countryside,
check out your Meridian to see what is happening in
Swavesey. Check out also the new website which we have
set up, this is updated weekly so there should always be
something new to interest you. If your organisation
wants to let everyone know what you are planning then
this is the place to do it.
Talking of planning I see that the Guided Bus/Rapid
Transport system has been moved another step forward by
the powers that be. The theory is all very well but
no-one has yet answered the question of what happens
when this rather large vehicle hits the medieval streets
of Cambridge. The new generation of buses struggle to
manoeuvre in the narrow streets so what is it going to
be like when this one joins the Cambridge chaos? I would
also like to know where all the cars that people use to
get to the stations are going to go? I know there are
designated “Park and Ride sites along the route but you
have still got to drive to get there and will this not
just add to the already busy local roads through the
villages- traffic calming is not going to deter people
from using these roads if they are the only means of
getting to the bus stations! But then taking the cynical
view I see that congestion charging may yet appear in
Cambridge (despite protestations to the contrary) so I
suppose we may find we are forced onto the buses anyway!
Deadline for the next issue (June/July) is 25th
April.
Keep those articles coming!
