Swavesey
Institute Football Club -Jan/Feb 2004
First Team (Sponsored by Swavesey Post Office and Newsagents)
The first team maintained their position on the fringe of the Kershaw Senior B promotion race during the first part of 2005. A good performance, in defeat, in the Cliff Bullen Challenge Cup quarter finals to Littleport Town of the Kershaw Premier League ended in a one goal reverse after extra time. League goals have flowed form midfield after the Christmas break with Mini James and Steve Turpin both being in a rich vein of form.

Reserves (Sponsored by The White Horse)
Failure to win in the last two months of 2004 indicated that the Reserves may struggle to preserve their BIS 4B status this season. These fears appeared to be dispelled during the first weekend of 2005 with a comprehensive win against promotion chasing Hemingfords. A lack of goals in the following three games mean that the Reserves are perched just above the relegation zone at the end of February as they enter the final part of their season.

Veterans (Sponsored by The White Horse)
The team for players of 35 years and over completed 2 more Huntingdonshire Veterans Friendly League fixtures. A 4-0 reverse against Hemingfords Veterans was followed by a 3-0 defeat under floodlights at Eynesbury. The team, newcomers to veterans football, are battling well against the well established veterans sides in the area. New goalkeeper Paul Glennie was in especially good form in the both games this year.
Fixtures
Check the Swavesey fixtures in the Cambridge Evening News and come and support your village side. Saturday fixtures start at 3pm in April, with all home games being played on Swavesey Green, followed by drinks afterwards in The White Horse. If you are interested in becoming involved on the playing side of the club, give Phil Baines a call on 200377.
Sponsorship
Any potential club sponsors should ring Jim Foster on 232842 to discuss ideas.
Social
The Valentines Dance on 12 Feb produced a turn out of over 150 people. The night was enjoyed by all and the group, 10th Avenue, provided some excellent music. A big thank you to all who supported this successful event which helped raised funds for the Swavesey Pavilion Appeal.

HOME AND AWAY
In Swavesey Camera Club we pride ourselves on the quality of our lectures, so to keep up standards the poor Programme Secretary has to search through lists of lecturers, scour local art publications, exhibitions and open studios searching for fine photographers who will interest and impress everyone with their work.
This time for one of the finest evenings we have ever had, with some of the most stunning photographs, we didn't have to look very far, in fact only as far as Boxworth End and Over. By pure chance Malcolm Clements and Jim MacAndrew had both recently visited Yellowstone National Park, Malcolm in the depth of winter and Jim in the Autumn, so they agreed to put on a joint show.
To say it was a stunning evening is hardly adequate; wildlife, geysers, glowing forests and misty snow-scapes with solitary bison just visible through the falling snow. Thank you both for a very fine night.
On another evening Boxworth End scored again, not only in providing us with our lecturer but being itself part of the show. This was the night that John Shepperson took us on a photographic journey through Swavesey, starting at the Trinity Foot, with the aid of very early black and white prints he has transferred onto slides. John is well-known for his interest in local history, and his accompanying talk inspired so many questions from the floor that time ran out when we had only reached Middlewatch. John has kindly agreed to come back in November to take us the rest of the way to Church End, an evening not to be missed by any resident, old or new, interested in the history of Swavesey.
Remember, visitors are always welcome, entry charges will be refunded against membership fees enjoining the club.
Mo Hadfield Swavesey Camera Club.

Swavesey Women's Institute
Swavesey Women's Institute is a friendly, lively group of 49 ladies who would welcome others to come and join them. As well as the monthly meetings there is a Keep Fit Group, Walking Group, Scrabble and Book Club, Craft Group and a very popular Eating Out Group.
Talks at our monthly meeting in the next few months will include the History of the Wedding Dress, Behind the Scenes of a TV Quiz Show with David Self who wrote the questions for programmes such as Sale of the Century and Top of the Form among others, and From Burma to India via China 1942 given by Stephen Brooke who lived in Burma at the time of the invasion and at the age of 11 years made that journey. We have many interesting talks coming up this year so watch our listing in the Meridian. Our Outing this August is an evening visit to Peckover House and Gardens in Wisbech.
Along with all our local activities we have the opportunity to join in with the Cambridge Federation for days out, lecture days/evenings and chances to try new activities. Some of the activities on offer are an evenings Clay Pigeon Shooting and an afternoon or evening of Golf, no experience is necessary just a willingness to have a go and have some fun. Visits coming up include Kelmscott Manor, Deane Park and Oundle, Ryton Gardens and the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park and more…..
We meet in the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm on the second Monday in the month. You would be most welcome so come and give us a try. There is sure to be a member near you to come with you should you wish, just ring Deirdre Burgess on 230897 or myself on 205224, or just come. If you don't know anyone when you arrive you will when you leave and you may enjoy it - 49 of us do!
