Spring

Traffic Calming

Spring

Spring heralds snowdrops, daffodils .......
....... Easter bunnies and white woolly lambs!
Spring witnesses bulbs emerging
through the cold, damp earth -
protruding leaves braving icy arctic blasts;
buds emerging from dried, brittle stems; and
tortoiseshell butterflies exercising wings
having hibernating in cobwebbed garages.

Spring energises gardeners to dig
the patch of ground for the 'runners'; and
to pay annual subscriptions for
the village cricket team and tennis club.

Spring sees the avalanche of
summer holiday catalogues
through the letterbox -
portraying exotic holidays in India
and cruises in the Caribbean ....... and
cut-priced holidays in Margate.*

Spring encourages the supermarkets
and One-stop corner shops
to beguile the early shopper
with their display of Easter eggs
and hot cross buns.

But best of all,
Spring heralds the Easter Festival
when Our Saviour emerged
from a dark, dank tomb; and
energises us to better efforts:

remembering those who will not be
enjoying a holiday this year
(following the tsunami disaster)
or have sufficient food.

TRAFFIC CALMING?

No matter where I try to go
Red lights cast a rosy glow
They stop me here
They stop me there
They hold me up and they don't care
I'm only going to my work
My boss is strict I cannot shirk
Not rat- running no not I
I have to use these roads and why?
Because it's the only way you see
I can get where I need to be
Please hurry up and get it done
I'm sure that I am not alone
In thinking that the traffic's calm
BUT
I'm not sure about me!................
