We have a bit of catching up to do in this report – namely our Pre-school Bazaar way back in November. Instead of snow we had rain, all day, but Father Christmas was happy in his grotto chatting to the children, and all the work of the committee, parents and staff paid off as we raised a very healthy £700. Thank you to the many local families and businesses who supported us so generously.

We had more fun during our Christmas celebrations, with a nativity performance by the children, followed by a Christmas party.  And we are just about to start back with the spring term (according to the school calendar there is no winter term!).  We are very pleased to welcome two new members of staff, Liz and Karen, and trust they will find a happy and rewarding career with us.

During January and February we will have been doing a lot of artwork and activities in relation to our Wintertime topic.  We have also celebrated the Chinese Year of the Monkey with Chinese food tasting and artwork.  Monkeys are fun loving, cheerful and always the centre of attention!

If you would like to visit, or register your child with us, please give me a ring on (01954 203039).

With best wishes for 2004.

Record GCSE results at Swavesey Village College

2001 has proved to be a record-breaking year for the College's pupils. Following the excellent results achieved by year 9 in their SATs tests, our Year 11 pupils achieved the best set of GCSE results in the College's history.

hi headline terms, 72% of pupils achieved 5 or higher grade passes and all of the 180 pupils in the year group recorded at least one pass grade.

Against both local and national trends boys achieved at comparable levels with girls in every area of the curriculum - despite there being a significant majority of boys in this year group.

We are justifiably proud of our pupils' achievements, which are among the very best in Cambridgeshire. Your community Comprehensive school goes from strength to strength. The class of 2002 will certainly have a hard act to follow!

SWAVESEY PRIMARY SCHOOL REPORT

On Wednesday 6th June, eight pupils of Swavesey Primary School participated in a Kwik cricket tournament at Over Community Centre. We were one of six teams competing in the tournament. We were first facing Rackham who were an exceptionally good team who beat us by many runs. Secondly we played Over and it was a very close match but Swavesey got the win. Our third match was against Willingham 2"d which again was another close match, but we took away another win. Our fourth match was against Fen Drayton who seemed to be very good and won. Our last match was against Willingham 1st who hit several sixes and we lost. Overall, I thought the team played very well and we came joint 3rd with Fen Drayton,

In the first half it was a close and competitive game and Swavesey scored two goals. In the second half, Over seemed to have the edge on Swavesey. Over pulled one goal back, leaving the final score 2 -1 to Swavesey.

On Thursday 7th June there was a girls' football match held at Swavesey Primary School against Over. The whole of the Swavesey team were keen to win and it showed because everyone played well. In the first half Chloe Drake scored the opening goal for Swavesey, followed by Stacey Black and then in the last couple of minutes Emily Cornwall scored. At half time Swavesey swapped goalies, Sarah Drake came out and Jenny Warren went in. In the second half, Swavesey managed to keep the ball in Over's end and again for Swavesey another goal was scored by Chloe Drake. The overall score was 4 - 0 to Swavesey. It was a great victory. Over were a sporting team, but unluckily for them, they lost.

Mr Brown would like to thank everyone involved in these excellent performances.

Finally comes the news that Mrs Thornton has decided to move on to pastures new. She has been a much-loved teacher in the Reception Class for 12 years and will be greatly missed, although I am sure we will see her return from time to time. On behalf of everyone at the school past and present, we would like to express our thanks for the dedication she has given to the school and wish her every success and happiness in her new endeavours.
