We've now had a lovely new coat of paint to brighten up the exterior of the building and I hope everybody likes the colour. It's a pleasant shade of green, which blends in with the surroundings.

SUMMER READING SCHEME

This year's summer reading scheme for children is called "Reading Odyssey" and encourages children to read a book a month, which they record on a special card, contained in a wallet. When they have finished the book they can make comments about it, give it a score out of 5 and receive a sticker. During July, August and September the names of all participants will be entered in a lucky dip draw where many exciting prizes can be won. Any child may enter the scheme, come along and join in!

Swavesey Millennium Celebrations

It is with mixed emotions that I pass on the information that the Millennium Coordinating Committee has finally been disbanded.

The MCC was the most pleasant, exciting and tireless committee that it has ever been my privilege to chair.

I hope you will agree that the 'Swavesey, Year 2000 Celebrations', when the media broadcast our festivities, will be long remembered and in fact go down as a memorable part of Swavesey's history.

Phil and Mavis Symonds deserve a special mention, not only for the superb Swavesey 2000 video record of the year's events but also for the fact that its sales raised £731.70 profit. When this sum of money was added to the final MCC balance, after all expenses had been paid, we were able to contribute the magnificent sum of £2850 to the Cambridge Area Parkinson's Disease Society.

As you will already know, the MCC did not set out to make a profit, but simply to give the Village a really memorable, millennium year of events. It achieved that and in the process enabled thousands of pounds to be fed back into good causes for the Swavesey area.

Lastly, the credit does not all belong to the MCC, it was Swavesey as a whole that entered into the spirit of the venture and gave us all very special memories to cherish, possibly for the rest of our lives.

Thank you for your support. Bob Stone

The late Mrs Doris Morris (73 yrs)
35 Pine Grove Park Swavesey

To all the friends of my dear wife Doris who have so kindly sent messages of condolence to me and my family and have so generously given donations in her memory to the Marie Curie Cancer Care - we give our heartfelt thanks. Our particular thanks go to our friends on Pine Grove Park and especially to Mrs D. "Tommy" Innes for her collection and to the Swavesey Branch of the Royal British Legion.

The total which is being sent to Marie Curie Cancer Care is the wonderful result off £353.41. We sincerely hope that this will in some small measure express our sincere appreciation to the Marie Curie Nurses who so kindly tended Doris during her closing few days.

SINCERELY Jack Morris and Family
