SWAVESEY INSTITUTE FOOTBALL CLUB - MAY/JUNE 2003

First Team (Sponsored by Swavesey Post Office and Newsagents)

Disappointing defeats in the last two league games prevented promotion from Division 1B. Annual awards, in a season where the team won the David Hodson Memorial Trophy and The Creake Shield, went to the ageless Stuart Croft (Player's Player), old-timer

Steve Gawthrop (Manager's Player) and Damien Blake (Leading Goalscorer).
v. Buckden                    Won 8-1 (M.Blake(3), D.Blake(2), Turpin(2), Simms)
v. Soham United            Lost 3-6 (D.Blake(2), Williams)
v. Buckden                    Lost 3-4  (Turpin(2), D.Blake)

Reserves (Sponsored by The White Horse)

The team finished the season in second from bottom place, although an influx of new teams could mean that the Reserves retain their Division 4B status. Annual awards went to Steve Church (Player's Player), the rotund Angus Clow (Manager's Player) and Dave Hodson (Leading Goalscorer).

v. West Row Gunners Reserves              Lost 2-4 (D.Hodson, Tarrant)

v. Littleport Town'A                                 Lost 2-5 (D.Hodson(2)

Veterans (Sponsored by The White Horse)

The two games played included the first ever victory for the team.  The annual player of the year award went to Sean Gladwell.

v. Godmanchester                                  Drew 2-2 (Munro, OG)
v. Cambridge Police                               Won 2-1 (Munro, OG)

Club Awards

At a successful annual presentation night held at Pidley Lodge the club's annual awards were presented to Angus Clow (Chairman's Award), the stout Sean Willis (Young Player) and Michael Blake (Most Improved Player).

New Players

Any players wanting to join the club should contact Phil Baines on 200377 or join in with pre-season training, which takes place each Tuesday and Thursday evening on Swavesey Green. Players nearing the end of their colts' careers would be an especially welcome addition to the club's playing strength; a quick assessment of the age of the various players of the year highlights this point starkly.  Please make contact and judge whether you want to be part of a successful 2003/04 season at Swavesey Institute FC.

2003/04 Season

League games start on the first Saturday in September, kicking off at 1500 on Swavesey Green.  The Veterans will play friendlies, mainly on Sundays.  Your support at the game and company in The White Horse afterwards is always appreciated.  The club continues to look for sponsorship ideas to assist the development of football in Swavesey; any ideas or proposals should be discussed with Jim Foster on 232842.

Referees
