Monday Night excitement @ Bethel

Every Monday Night at Bethel there are a variety of different groups for Young People.  Each group is designed for the appropriate age group to ensure maximum fun and excitement.

Every Monday night at 6:00pm children in Years Reception to Year 3 join together to meet and play games, make crafts, cook, listen to bible stories, and enjoy a drink and biscuit.  At 7pm more children arrive (Years 4 to 6) to enjoy games, tuck shop, collect Bibliocards (Bible based Collector cards), cook, hear about the bible and participate in many more activities.  All this happens at Bethel Baptist Church under the name of Monday Nite Club!  This year we also enjoyed a sleepover, performed a Christmas musical and went on a weekend camp.

A new group began this year for those who attend the Village College.  There are many activities during the evening and a chance to chill out with friends around the pool table or in front of a Playstation while drinking hot chocolate and eating sweets!  They have also enjoyed a sleepover and a trip out bowling! Stephanie in Year 7 Says "Monday Nite Club is good because it's fun, you get to make "stuff" and you can bring your friends!"

Why not come and join in the fun?  Starts again after the summer holidays on Monday 12th September.

Explorers (Years Reception - Year 3) 6pm - 7pm
Monday Nite Club - (Years 4-6) 7pm - 8:30pm
Monday Nite Club - (Year 7 plus) 7pm - 8:30pm

THE SUMMER BREAK?

Our 2004/2005 programme has come to an end, no more lectures, practical sessions, competitions; we've had the Annual Dinner, the Barbecue and presented the trophies. The summer stretches before us. Now what?

This year when September 8th comes around you will all be able to see for yourselves. As usual, on the first evening of the year we intend to hold our Welcome Evening when you are all invited to come along for a glass of wine and meet our members. Following the success of last year when, with an eye to introducing ourselves and our work to newcomers, several members showed a selection of their work, we have decided to do something similar this autumn.

As you'd expect during the long summer break we will have ample opportunities to visit interesting locations and almost certainly will make great efforts to capture everything on film or digital camera, and so this year we shall combine our social evening with an informal exhibition of prints, slides and photo CDs on the theme of 'What I did in the Hols.'

So make a note in your diary and come along and join us on what we hope will be a most enjoyable evening, and if you like what you see pick up a programme for 2005/2006 which promises to have something for everyone.

SWAVESEY WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

July will find us listening to Stephen Brook and his memories of walking as an 11 year old boy from Burma to India after the invasion in 1942,  We are off to Peckover House in August for our evening, out of hours, visit.  September we will drink a toast to 90 years of the W.I. in England and Wales and then be entertained by two of our members when Kathleen will talk to us about her continued involvement with a family in Romania and Sue will demonstrate an easy bake cake.   October's speaker will bring with her textiles, clothes and artefacts from the regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan to complement her talk entitled Carpets, Cushions and Costumes.  November we will watch a demonstration of Clay Modelling by Francis Ashfield who will model a cottage before our very eyes; and in December we are fortunate to welcome Paul Shakeshaft who will talk to us about King's College Chapel - a very apt topic for a December meeting.

We also have all of our group activities, and so if the above programme is not enough to tempt you to join us you could also be involved in walking, keep fit, reading, scrabble, craft or eating out.   Then there are all the opportunities available with the Cambridge Federation -  a Visit to Calke Abbey,  Summer Theatre at Southwold, Autumn Break in Edinburgh, Seal Watching off Burnham on Crouch, Caribbean Evening, Flower Arranging Demonstration, Federation Dinner and Words and Music for Christmas in Haslingfield Church.  I have not enough space to fit in all the events and outings available at Federation level but you can see that within the W I is the opportunity to do as little or as much as you choose.  We have been  happy to welcome 5 new members so far this year but would be pleased to see more.  You would be most welcome so please ring Deirdre Burgess on 230897 or myself on 205224 or just come - the second Monday in the month (except August when we are at Wisbech) at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall.
