 Swavesey Parish Council News

New cycle/bridle/walkways
Your Parish Council has been approached to ask if it would discuss with the County Council provision for a safe route along Buckingway Road (Swavesey to A14) for cyclists, pedestrians and horseriders.
The County Council has informed us of the cost and that the bid would have to go onto the already established list of routes waiting to be assessed throughout Cambridgeshire.  Our County Councillor Mandy Smith is supporting the Parish Council with this request.  As part of the bid the Parish Council will need to prove that there is a demand for such a route, therefore the Parish Council would like to ask residents, via the Meridian Magazine, if they could write or email the Parish Council, adding their support to either or both of these request for safe routes along Buckingway Road, to link the village with the employment at Buckingway Business Park, the Trinity Foot public house and the Cambridge Services and public rights of way on the other side of the A14.

There is a separate suggestion for a similar route between Swavesey and Fen Drayton on the roads which we'd also like your views on.

Please send your letters and emails to:  Linda Miller, Clerk to Swavesey Parish Council, 21 Thistle Green, Swavesey, CB4 5RJ.   Email: clerk@swavesey.org.uk

Youth Centre to re-open
The village's youth centre at Swavesey Village College will re-open this September during term-time with two youth workers. The parish council is funding one post, the Central South Cambs Patch Youth Service funding the other.

Watch your speeds please
Market Street and its green are very pleasant places. Please all of us, let's watch our speeds and not spoil things by driving too fast because we're late for work, or by doing handbrake turns outside the hairdressers or pub.

Local Development Framework
Copies of the South Cambs District Council LDF are kept in Swavesey's Your Library for public consultation. It replaces the old Local Plans which set development agendas in stone for a specified time. The LDF is designed to be more flexible. If you have an interest in the village's future development, please visit the library, take a look at it and submit your comments to the District Council.

Your Library
The Library is well-used and now seeks additional volunteers and committee members to help shape and run it over the coming year.  Please contact the library directly if you can help.

Constable's Rood
With the site cleared, negotiations are ongoing as to layout, planting scheme and funding to make this a nature-rich site with walkway and seating.  The Scout group are on board and there is plenty of village interest in the project.

Petty crime
Spring has seen a host of petty crime in local villages: vandalism, thefts from cars, thefts from sheds, burglaries from home windows/doors left open or unlocked, even when occupants are at home, also cold-callers asking if your roof/driveway/etc needs repairs (and possibly casing your joint at the same time). Please be vigilant.

Parking outside Primary School
Barriers and posts are being installed to stop school-runners parking in the entrance area/verge.

Recreation Green play area
The new play equipment will be installed over the summer and we hope it will be ready for use by mid-September. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the appeal to fund this.

Swavesey Prom Night celebrations
Thank you to all the young people in our village who enjoyed their end-of-school celebrations but who also took the time and care to ensure other residents weren't inconvenienced by either night-long noise or rubbish as in previous years. Only three bags of rubbish were collected from the Recreation Green the following morning which is a huge improvement. Well done all of you and we wish you well in your next steps from school!

Cow Fen Road
Thank-you to everyone who has put in labour, materials and/or machinery. Cow Fen Road is currently looking very well.

 Your County Councillor

Cambridgeshire County Council - working in partnership with everyone

With regard to the proposals for the upgrading of the A14, I hope that everyone has expressed his or her views to the Highways Agency.

Also, concerning the proposed relocation of Papworth Hospital, for more information, log on to www.papworth-hospital.org.uk or drop me a line.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all at Swavesey Primary School who invited me to look around the school. The hospitality I received was very moving.  I attended there around thirty years ago, and I enjoyed seeing how the school had changed. I look forward to meeting everyone again soon.

The County Council is hoping to keep its excellent rating, and part of this aim is to make it a stronger, more efficient council. Partnerships with others - with other councillors, district and parish, officers of the Council, and yourselves as individuals - is vital. Communication is the essence of good partnership, so I do hope that you all will contact me with any problems you may have.

As ever, I look forward to hearing from you.
