Swavesey Primary School Report

It is with very mixed feelings that we must say goodbye to Mr Vickery at the end of this term.

His wisdom and calm authority have enabled the school to prosper in a wonderfully happy environment, constantly striving towards ever-greater goals.

We will miss his good humour (remember the stocks!); dedication - never missing a PTA event, always there to welcome the children back from a school trip; and his commitment to all the children - knowing every one by name.

So yes, we are sad that he is moving on, but also pleased and proud that his achievements have been acknowledged in the award of another even more challenging headship. Congratulations Mr Vickery on a job well done!

Part of the process involved in finding a new head includes preparing a 'head teachers' pack' to welcome prospective heads to Swavesey Primary. The children were asked to write a paragraph to describe the school, so that some could be included in the pack. Here are extracts from a selection of them.

I like this school because it has got lots of fun things. We do art. We have conversations on the carpet. I have got kind teachers.
Jasmine Venables, Year 2

The people that come here are really helpful and kind. The school has a really good layout and if you get lost the children will tell you where to go. We have two new classrooms and a computer suite.
Edward Wilderspin, Year 6

I like playing in the playground. I like to watch class assemblies. I think the school council is a very good idea because we talk about problems in school.
Vanessa Hart, Year 2

I think the teachers and helpers are special in our school because they are kind and helpful. If you get hurt they sort you out and clean up your wound.
Ben Robinson, Year 6

The best thing about our school is the quality of the school lunches. The lessons are well organised and pleasing. The teachers are very nice. The clubs are fun and games lessons are cool and exciting. The apparatus is fun to play games on at playtime and lunchtime.
Joel Harman, Year 6

What is special about our school ? My friends are special because they are always there for me and they help me a lot. The Willow Maze is special because it is fun to try to get to the middle. The PTA organise the discos, it's really good at our school!
Josh Molt, Year 6

The best things about our school are the art lessons, literacy and PE. In art you get to do a different thing each week and you nearly (mostly) always learn a new thing. In literacy you find out lots of things that you didn't know before. I like PE because you get to do different subjects, like tennis, cricket, rounders and wacko. In wacko you have 2 teams, a fielding team and batting team. The batter hits 6 balls and when they shout wacko the batter runs around a circuit and the fielders collect the 6 balls and put them on the base. Its great!
Alice Fuller, Year 6

Our school is friendly and welcoming to all our visitors. On the walls are brilliant pieces of work and our Topic books are on the shelves that decorate the corridors. The children are really nice here and they hardly ever fall out with me. The teachers are really nice, but can be strict. The helpers are brilliant and if you're stuck they'll help you.
Matthew Sweeney, Year 6

We very much hope that these positive thoughts will help us in the process to find an equally dynamic and caring head as Mr Vickery has proved to be.
