John Hodson presenting the Trophy to Mick Stokes, Captain of Swavesey |
The David Hodson Memorial Trophy competition took place on the Village Green on the 20th, 21st and 24th of August 2001. In the first semi-final, Cottenham defeated Over and in the second semi- final Willingham were beaten by Swavesey. In the Final, Swavesey were the victors by a 2-1 result, the winning goal being scored in the last five minutes. This is the first time that Swavesey has won the Trophy. The competition as a whole was very good with excellent contributions from all the teams. The three matches were very well supported and as a result we were able to forward a cheque to the National Asthma Campaign for £600. On behalf of the committee, I would like thank all of our sponsors and everyone who helped and supported us in any way for making this a successful occasion. John Hodson |

The first team continued their good pre-season in the league form remaining undefeated until mid October when two successive defeats halted their promising run. The reserves stuttered in their early competitive games failing to register a win in the first four leagues and cup games, however a remarkable turnaround in October saw the first two victories of the season being recorded in a convincing fashion. It only took a year! But we've finally got our new computers installed and in use. The computers in the children's library have special children's websites for play and for homework and are proving to be very popular. At the beginning of October we had two classes, Years 1 and 2, from Swavesey Primary School come to visit. The children were shown how to use the library and its facilities as well as having a storytime. Everyone was invited to take a book home with them and their response was very enthusiastic. For "Family Learning Weekend" this year, we invited Ben Robinson, from Swavesey Primary School's Year 6, to become a librarian for the day. Ben had a super time learning about all the things librarians do and especially the excitement of stamping the books! Also on that same morning we were visited by Smoulder the Dragon and Lady Guinevere from the cast of RADSOC's pantomime, King Arthur, both of whom greatly delighted everyone with their charm and humour. Opening times are as followed:
