The Meridian Women's Club

Well the autumn term has got off to a good start. We all enjoyed our first evening in September with a light-hearted Bingo session. The next meeting was a brief talk by me on Counted Cross Stitch but more a chance to have a go at trying the hobby for yourselves. Several ladies completed a small initial which was mounted in a card to keep.

October kicked off with a very interesting talk by Christine Preston, the Education Interpretation Officer at The Cambridge University Botanic Garden. She showed us some magnificent slides and kept us entertained with the fascinating array of events that are held at the Garden throughout the year. As well as being a beautiful place to simply admire on a visit during all the different seasons, it is positively a hive of activity for all ages and abilities.

We then held an Auction at our next meeting. Some very interesting objects were bought and auctioned off, raising some useful funds for the club. Personally, I am enjoying the convenience of two microwave Apple Bakers I bid for successfully plus the cooking apples to fill them!

At the time of writing we are about to have some Hallowe'en Fun, eating jacket potatoes with various fillings, accompanied by a glass of wine (or juice for those of us driving or teetotal).

The AGM on 14th November with a Bring & Buy usually gets a good turn out. Theresa Ouzman has kindly offered to show us how to make a small Christmas Tree or Wreath at our meeting on 28th November.

On Saturday 8th December we are having a Table Top Sale (@ £5 per table) and cake stall in the Memorial Hall from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon. So please contact me on 202877 to book a table if you have some things to sell, or come along and buy what is on offer.

We are all looking forward to our Christmas Party on Wednesday 12th December and our trip to 'Barnum on Ice' at the Corn Exchange, Cambridge on 19th December.

Then there is our New Year meal booked for 9th January 2002 at The Trinity Foot, Swavesey where we are always given a warm welcome.

You too are sure of a warm welcome if you ladies out there would like to join our club. We meet alternate Wednesdays at The Memorial Hall, Swavesey from 8pm until approximately 10 pm (unless otherwise specified on our programme). We usually have an interesting speaker or activity, followed by a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits. It is only 50p per session and 50p for a raffle ticket. So why not give us a try?
