 EDITORIAL

So here it is, nearly Christmas, and the season for Carol Concerts, Nativity Plays and over-indulgence! Followed inevitably by a new year and all those resolutions that we make but somehow never, or rarely, seem to keep! Have you kept any of your new year resolutions? If so we would love to know about it.

One thing is certain, 2004 will not be any different to 2003 with regard to the awful A14! Apart from a lot more hot air being produced over what to do about it!

Is a guided bus the answer or a light railway? The answer to that has to be no for a lot of us as this will only serve for those of us who only need to go into and out of Cambridge on a daily basis and no use at all for anyone who has to go to more than one place in a day. I for one would not find it any help at all as my job involves going to a different village in the area each day plus almost daily visits to Histon to care for an elderly parent. Let us have your views on this and also on the junction at Buckingway business park, where there have been several near misses and at least one nasty incident (to my knowledge) where a motor cycle ended up being wrecked. This junction is badly signposted and badly laid out and I am sure many of you have sat at this junction whilst a large HGV struggles to negotiate the turn wondering if it was going to make it, and one of the bollards seems to spend most of its time lying on its side as no sooner is it placed upright than it gets knocked down again. This surely must say something is not right?

The deadline for the February/March issue is December 27th ( as it's Christmas you have 2 extra days to get your copy in!)

Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year to you all

 ARTICLES

We love them, we want MORE of them! We have our regular contributors who send us their reports and  information on what is planned but I know there are more of you out there who we rarely hear from. Looking at the list in The Meridian it is clear there are a lot of groups/organisations in Swavesey but why don’t you let everyone know what you are doing? We are not looking for something every issue but maybe you could manage 2 or 3 times a year? Half a page would be enough just to let everyone know who you are and what you do. For example every time I read a report from The History Society I wish I got home in time to go to one of their meetings!

How many times have you held a fundraising event which we have featured in The Meridian in our forthcoming events or other pages but forgotten to follow it up with a few lines letting us know how much you raised? How many of you have held a social evening or a quiz, gone on an outing to somewhere interesting, but never told the rest of us about it? Please let us ALL know about your activities and achievements.

We do ask that you try not to exceed 500 words in total, less if you have a photograph or two that you would like us to put with the article so give it a try.

 ADVERTISING MATTERS

Judging from the number of enquiries and resulting take up of advertising space ‘The Meridian’ is proving a popular place for advertising. However this is giving rise to a slight problem! Since introducing the option of placing advertisements in the main text instead of in ‘The Meridian Advertiser’ at the back of the magazine we have noticed more advertisers opting for this. We are now in danger of having too many advertisements in the main text which is becoming more fragmented.

As a result we have decided to restrict the number of advertisements that we put into the main text as of January 2004. Anyone who is already advertising in this way will remain in the main text unless they wish to stop their advertisement or decide to change to advertising in ‘The Meridian Advertiser’; any new applications will have to wait until one of the current advertisers drops out but can still take up space in ‘The Meridian Advertiser’ and or on the website. We hope you will agree that this is the fairest way.
