John Hodson presenting the Trophy to Mick Stokes, Captain of Swavesey |
The David Hodson Memorial Trophy competition took place on the Village Green on the 20th, 21st and 24th of August 2001. In the first semi-final, Cottenham defeated Over and in the second semi- final Willingham were beaten by Swavesey. In the Final, Swavesey were the victors by a 2-1 result, the winning goal being scored in the last five minutes. This is the first time that Swavesey has won the Trophy. The competition as a whole was very good with excellent contributions from all the teams. The three matches were very well supported and as a result we were able to forward a cheque to the National Asthma Campaign for £600. On behalf of the committee, I would like thank all of our sponsors and everyone who helped and supported us in any way for making this a successful occasion. John Hodson |

A very successful 25th Anniversary Meeting of the Swavesey & District History Society took place at the Village College on December 11th 2001. Over 60 members, past and present, were there to hear Mr Bill Watts of Quy read some of his collection of 'Country Poems'. Poems with titles such as 'Ivor my Grey Fergie' and 'In them good old days', had members rocking with laughter in their seats. Carole Shaw, Chairman, thanked Bill for an amusing presentation. During the second part of the meeting, photographs of past and present members were taken, and a '25th Anniversary' cake was cut. The 25th AGM followed when president John Shepperson said how pleased he was to see so many members who had contributed to the Society over the past 25 years, and had made it so successful.

If
anything has marked this Autumn's programme from that of other
years it must be the almost complete conversion of our guest
speakers to digital photography. The majority of them, experts
in their own field, tell us that their darkroom equipment has
been relegated to the attic, and that they are producing the
highest quality prints on their PCs. This must be due mainly
to the considerable improvement in equipment now available but
some credit must be given to the convenience of these methods;
one of the most mentioned improvements being that now they can
stop in the middle and have lunch, impossible with the old
darkroom processes. For those of us less eminent in photographic circles it is all very encouraging. Mike Swain's excellent Digital Photography weekend class at Swavesey Village College was very well attended, and there is a second planned for Saturday 9th February. The Digital Darkroom evenings at the club are also proving very popular to the point that we are rather overcrowded and so are unable to take visitors on those days. Anyone with a keen interest would be advised to contact Mike Swain through the College. (See Club Information) |
