Are You Sue & John

 EDITORIAL

I find myself with a problem and you can help me solve it! We need more articles from you about what you are doing, what your club, society, group do, where you go, all that sort of thing. I know I have been “going on “ about this in previous issues but if The Meridian is to truly reflect what happens in Swavesey then we need to have more articles from ALL the clubs and societies that flourish in the village. Swavesey is a vibrant and exciting place with lots of things to interest lots of different people but this is not reflected in the village magazine and I feel that the magazine is not truly representative of the community that it serves. (And before you ask, yes I have looked at magazines from other villages!) Articles do not have to be long;  a few lines is enough to tell everyone about your group, and in fact I would prefer several short items to one long one as then we have a wider coverage. So how about it? There must be one or more in every club/society who could write a little every two months about what goes on. I am quite happy to type hand-written articles if necessary, articles on disc are very welcome but please put your address on them so I can return them to you.

HELP NEEDED: This really follows on from the above as I need someone with the time to contact all the clubs and societies in the village every two months and try to get something from them for the magazine. I can contact quite a few by email but not everyone has this and I need someone who can phone/call on secretaries of societies and clubs. I do not have the time to do this and would appreciate some help. Any offers please to me. Thank you

DEADLINE FOR THE APRIL/MAY EDITION IS 27TH FEBRUARY!

 FREE MAGAZINE ADVERTS

I feel that we need to rationalise our policy on free advertising for village groups who hold fund-raising events. Many groups only hold one or maybe two of these a year but others hold more and I am very aware that we need to be careful over the number of pages in the magazine. I want to leave more space for village and community news and events and feel that we are in danger of adverts (free or paid for) taking over the whole magazine. Having given the matter some thought and talked it over with the committee we have come up with what we hope is a “happy medium” as a solution.

Adverts that take up a whole page, one free advert a year and subsequent adverts to cost £5.00.

Adverts that take up half a page,  one free advert a year and subsequent adverts to cost £2.50.

Adverts that are also articles giving information about a club/societies activities will be free every time.

 ARE YOU SUE & JOHN

A Cosette Bamford has written from Auckland, New Zealand, trying to contact Sue and John (and 1 other) who she thought lived in Gibraltar Lane, Swavesey.  She obviously has boys of her own, but has not been in touch for some years due to ill-health.

If you think you are the Sue and John, or know where they might be now, please contact Jill and Roger Holland on 01954 230077 who have received a card and note from New Zealand.
