Notes:
1) In 1858 there were 8 Beer retailers registered in Kelly's Directory in Swavesey and two Public Houses -The White Horse and The George and Dragon.

2) In 1900 there were nine Public Houses listed - Black Horse, Chequers, George and Dragon, New Inn, Red Lion, Rising Sun, Sir Harry Smith, Swan with Two Necks and White Horse

3) In 1922 only four public houses remained: The White Horse, Rising Sun, Blue Bell and New Inn, in addition there may have been a few unofficial beer retailers.

4) In 1933 there were three Public Houses listed - The Blue Bell, The Rising sun and The White Horse.

5) Details of licensed Public Houses, Inns and beer retailers taken from Kelly's Directories for 1858,1900, 1922 and 1933.

6) It is unlikely that all the beer retailers were listed. It is probable that some beer retailers were trading without a licence until the first World War, or perhaps until the 1920's. Later only The Rising Sun and The Blue Bell, remained open to compete with The White Horse and Trinity Foot for a limited period.

7) Details of licences from 17th century to early 19th century taken from card index of licensed premises held at Shire Hall, Castle Hill Cambridge.

8) The premises listed as "mentioned" are recorded in "The Swavesey Chronicle" 1776 -1899

9) Details for 1910 taken from Register of Duties on Land Values held in Shire Hall Cambs.

10) Pubs and Inns trading prior to 1869 retained the right to sell beer without a licence (for a time)

11) Tithe Records of 1839 indicate locations of 14 PH's with names of proprietors but not Pub names. These records confirm the existence of most of those listed and some others.
