Garden Plants Theft

During April 2008 their have been an increasing number of reports of theft of plants in containers.

17th April - Market Street - Planted window box
18th April - Black Horse Lane - 5ft bay tree in a pot
26/27th April - Carters way - Hanging baskets
March/April - Memorial Hall - continuing theft of plants and compost from tubs.

One witness in Black Horse Lane states:
“Just to let you know, that at 5.30am today, we were rudely woken by a white male youth of late teens, just under 6ft, wearing blue sweatshirt and jeans and a creamy white woollen hat with black marks. Stealing a 5ft bay tree in pot, from front garden, got away with it on a dark coloured mountain bike. Can you believe it! Have informed the police.”

It is important that any thefts of plants are reported to the police on 0845 456 456 4 and a crime number obtained. Increased early morning patrols will only be organised if there are sufficient recorded incidents.

Hanging baskets can be attached to the brackets with a wire binding to make them more difficult to remove.

My name is Alan Morris and I have been appointed the Neighbourhood Watch Area Co-ordinator for Swavesey. For those of you who don’t know me I have lived in Taylors Lane for over 30 years and in the last few years have been involved with the production of the Meridian Magazine and I have also set up and maintain this website.

I am currently working to appoint Co-ordinators for most of the village and the latest situation is as follows:-

Co-ordinators are required for the following areas:-
Over Road
Station Road
Moat Way/Whitegate Close
Chantry Close/Turnbridge Court
High Street
School Lane
Priory Avenue
Gibraltar Lane
Whitton Close
Middle Watch
Pine Grove Park

Boxworth End

Co-ordinators have been appointed for:-
Taylors Lane
Black Horse Lane
Market Street
Wallmans Lane
Hobbledods Close
Greenside Close
Thistle Green
Ramper Road
Carters Way

The basic role of a Co-ordinator entails contacting residents in the area and signing up those who wish to join the scheme, arranging meetings to discuss any local problems, and passing on a range of information both to and from the police.

Neighbourhood Watch is proven to be very effective at limiting crime and the fear of crime. Some insurance companies give a discount if you live in an active NHW area and they would only do that if it reduced the risk of crime. It also brings communities closer together giving neighbours the opportunity to get to know one another.

If you live in or very close to those areas requiring Co-ordinators then please consider helping to support your neighbours by volunteering to take on the role.

When a Co-ordinator is appointed then they will approach each household in their area to ask them to sign up to the scheme.

Please contact me if you wish to volunteer or require more information.
