Neighbourhood Watch FAQ's

WHAT IS NHW?

  • Neighbourhood Watch is a country wide voluntary organisation with the aim of making each area a better place for people to live, work and play.
  • It encourages neighbourliness and provides reassurance to those who may come in contact with crime or anti social behaviour.
  • It provides a forum by which the public can have ease of dialogue with the police, through this crime is often reduced.
  • It provides contact persons, called coordinators, from whom advice and news can be received.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Area Coordinators split houses into groups and each has a coordinator. These people are the main contact person for their road. They encourage membership which is free, and encourage good neighbourliness and an open dialogue with the police. They have resources by which crimes can be prevented. The police have staff specifically set aside to communicate with Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators and Area Coordinators.
