Buckingway Road  - Cycleway/Footpath  -  Update May 2007

Unfortunately the planning application for the further development at Buckingway Business Park did not take on the requests for a safer route along Buckingway Road.

The Parish Council, together with the Swavesey & District Bridleways Association, is now pursuing discussions with the Northstowe Rights of Way Project which is tasked with improving off-road rights of way routes between villages close to the new Northstowe development, linking in with this development.  The possibility of incorporating a bridleway route with/alongside a cycleway/footpath along Buckingway Road is now being investigated.  This may also link in with requests for a safe crossing of the A14, as part of the improvement plans. There is still a long way to go and this subject will still be pursued.

Buckingway Road  - Cycleway/Footpath  -  Update July 2006

Via our County Councillor, the Parish Council has put a formal request in to the County Council for a cycleway/footpath, suitable for use by pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders, to be installed along Buckingway Road.  This will be a long process but the request is now on the County’s list.

Sustrans, the UK's leading sustainable transport charity, has also produced a detailed report on access by foot and cycle to/from Buckingway Business Park, with its conclusions.

As well as this, the Parish Council has this month been consulted on a planning application for further development at Buckingway Business Park, on the section alongside the A14.  In response to the consultation, the Parish Council has requested that the developers provide funding towards the provision of a safer route along Buckingway Road, particularly as the transport assessment for the application recommends that employers promote cycling and walking to work, as well as using public transport, instead of driving.

Cycleway/Footpath, Buckingway Road - 2005

The Parish Council is campaigning to the County Council for the provision a safe route along Buckingway Road for cyclists, pedestrians and horseriders. During 2005 the County Council informed the Parish Council of the cost and that the bid would have to go onto the already established list of routes waiting to be assessed throughout Cambridgeshire. Our County Councillor Mandy Smith is supporting the Parish Council with this request.

As part of the bid the Parish Council will need to prove that there is a demand for such a route, therefore the Parish Council would like to ask residents to contact the Parish Council, adding their support to this request for a safe route along Buckingway Road, to link the village with the employment at Buckingway Business Park, the Trinity Foot public house and the Cambridge Services on the other side of the A14.
